The vessels were those that had been taken from the temple at Jerusalem and stored in the temples of the gods of Babylon. Cyrus had them brought out by the hand of Mithredath, his treasurer, who counted them out and numbered them unto Sheshbazzar. Sheshbazzar was the prince of Judah who received them on behalf of the returning exiles. They were entrusted to him for the exiles to carry back to Jerusalem for use in the temple to be rebuilt.
