Ezra 10:29

And of the sons of Bani; Meshullam, Malluch, and Adaiah, Jashub, and Sheal, and Ramoth.

The verse names six men from the sons of Bani: Meshullam, Malluch, and Adaiah, Jashub, and Sheal, and Ramoth. Those men are listed among those involved in Israel's forbidden marriages with foreign women, from whom Ezra worked to separate the people from the heathen. The list belongs to the record of the people's practical separation from heathen practices before they were taught the law. It is part of the effort to separate the people from the heathen and prepare them spiritually for the rebuilding of Jerusalem.

It belongs to God's clear counsel about marriage given in love and mercy. It is to be read and prayerfully considered and cheerfully obeyed by carefully consulting the word of God and walking agreeably to it. It gives important instruction and timely warning that marriage must be entered only in the Lord and its duties studied before entering it. Heeding it spares bitter anguish of heart and painful regret for long years, frequent disappointments of that honorable estate, and repentance that is at once too soon and too late.
