The children of Lebanah, the children of Hagabah, the children of Akkub,
Ezra 2:45 names the children of Lebanah, Hagabah, and Akkub as part of Ezra's register of those who returned under Cyrus and went up to Jerusalem in response to his decree. That second chapter records the decree under which the temple was begun. The register belongs to the return led by Zerubbabel in the first year of Cyrus, with those named in Ezra 2:1-65 numbering 42,360 persons, nearly fifty thousand, who accepted Cyrus's offer to return to their own land. Those already returned from Babylon to Jerusalem are distinct from the many Jews who still remained in Babylon and were invited to return, yet their freedom to return marked the end of the captivity. The account belongs to the history of Ezra 1-6 when the temple was being rebuilt, providing the setting for Haggai's message.
