Ezra 2:48

The children of Rezin, the children of Nekoda, the children of Gazzam,

The families of Rezin, Nekoda, and Gazzam are named among the groups who returned from captivity. This naming belongs to the account of the people who responded to the decree of Cyrus and went up to Jerusalem in the period of rebuilding the temple there. The opening chapters place this return under the decree of Cyrus and at the beginning of the rebuilding of the temple.

The list shows that 42,360 persons had already returned to Jerusalem with Zerubbabel in the first year of Cyrus, while many Jews still remained in Babylon to be called to return until a large number later went up with Ezra. The chapter's list records the nearly fifty thousand Jews who accepted the offer of Cyrus to return to their land. It does not identify the later date of 457 B.C. as the beginning of the temple.
