Ezra 2:70

So the priests, and the Levites, and some of the people, and the singers, and the porters, and the Nethinims, dwelt in their cities, and all Israel in their cities.

The verse belongs to the account of the return from captivity after the decree of Cyrus for the restoration of Jerusalem and the temple. Under Zerubbabel and Joshua nearly fifty thousand Israelites returned to Canaan. These were only a remnant of the Israelites scattered through the provinces of Medo-Persia, for many chose to remain in captivity rather than return and take part in restoring the temple services.

The verse records the settlement of that company, with the priests and Levites and singers and gatekeepers and temple servants dwelling in their respective cities, and all Israel in their cities. After the services of the altar had been restored, the returnees united in keeping the Feast of Tabernacles. They then separated to occupy and restore the homes in the cities where they were to live.
