Ezra 2:8

The children of Zattu, nine hundred forty and five.

Ezra 2:8 stands in the list of the exiles who returned to Jerusalem and Judah, recording the children of Zattu as 945. That return was made with Zerubbabel in the first year of Cyrus in response to Cyrus's decree, proclamation, and offer to rebuild the temple. The decree ended the captivity by making the people free to go.

The first returning company numbered 42,360, recorded in Ezra 2:1-65 as nearly fifty thousand Jews who accepted the offer and returned to their own land. Although freed to go, many Jews remained in the land of their captivity and did not return. The return belongs to the beginning and rebuilding of the temple in Haggai's time.

It does not belong to the B.C. 457 beginning of the going forth of the commandment to restore and build Jerusalem, but to the record of the beginning of the temple under the decree of Cyrus.
