Ezra 2:9

The children of Zaccai, seven hundred and threescore.

This record belongs to the list of those who responded to the decree or proclamation of Cyrus in his first year and went up to Jerusalem with Zerubbabel to rebuild the temple. The returning company numbered 42,360 people. Nearly fifty thousand Jews accepted the offer of Cyrus and returned to their own land, as recorded in the full list of Ezra 2:1-65.

Their going up shows that the captivity had ended in the sense that the Jews were free to depart, even though many remained behind in Babylon. The entry itself is not an expressed promise but simply gives names and numbers of the leading ones who went up from the captivity. It stands as one of more than fifteen hundred such name-verses in Ezra and Nehemiah, which, together with verses containing threatenings of God's wrath against sin and denunciations of evil, cannot be counted among God's great and precious promises to His people. This makes clear that a claim of thirty-six thousand distinct promises exceeds the thirty-one thousand five hundred and thirteen verses contained in the whole Bible.
