Ezra 6:20

For the priests and the Levites were purified together, all of them were pure, and killed the passover for all the children of the captivity, and for their brethren the priests, and for themselves.

Ezra 6 records a second decree for building the house of the Lord at Jerusalem, issued by Darius following the proclamation of Cyrus king of Persia. The verse shows that the priests and the Levites purified themselves together, so that all of them were ceremonially clean before preparing the Passover. They killed the Passover for all the returned exiles, for their fellow priests, and for themselves.

The chapter shows that the Lord still moves upon the hearts of kings and rulers in behalf of His people. He has placed His goods in the hands of unbelievers to be used for the work that must be done for a fallen world. The favors, help, gifts, and avenues that God moves the world to give through such agents are to be received and used for the advancement of His cause. This holds even when those agents have no sympathy with the work and no faith in Christ; their gifts are not to be refused, cut off, or bound up by conflict with authorities.
