Ezra Weighs Out the Silver, Gold and Vesselsby emmanuel_higgins

Ezra 8:29

Watch ye, and keep them, until ye weigh them before the chief of the priests and the Levites, and chief of the fathers of Israel, at Jerusalem, in the chambers of the house of the LORD.

After the silver and the gold and the vessels offered for the house of God had been weighed out, the solemn charge to those appointed to carry them was to watch over them and keep them safely until they should be weighed again before the chief of the priests and the Levites and the chief of the fathers of Israel at Jerusalem, in the chambers of the house of the Lord. The treasure was entrusted to appointed priests and Levites, twelve chief priests whose faithfulness and fidelity had already been proved. Reliance on God and His blessing does not make prudence and forethought, practical care and special precaution in safeguarding the Lord's treasure, unnecessary. The charge shows the necessity and value of order and organization in God's work through vigilant stewardship, clear accountability, choosing only treasurers of the Lord's goods whose trustworthiness has been proved, and instructing them plainly about their responsibility.
