Galatians 2:8
( For he that wrought effectually in Peter to the apostleship of the circumcision, the same was mighty in me toward the Gentiles:) ( For he that wrought effectually in Peter to the apostleship of the circumcision, the same was mighty in me toward the Gentiles:)
The verse assigns Peter to the Jews, the circumcision, and Paul to the Gentiles. The same God worked powerfully and effectually through each man, empowering both for their distinct apostolic missions as part of the same gospel mission. The other apostles recognized God's call of Paul to bring the gospel to the Gentiles, just as Peter was designated especially for the Jews, and accepted Paul as their equal fellow worker.
James and John were joined with Peter in preaching Christ among their own countrymen. Paul's commission and broad missionary field were made clear to him by God and presented to him with special clarity while he was praying in the temple. God prepared Paul for Gentile work by drawing him into close fellowship with Himself and giving him a glimpse of heaven's beauty and glory.
By God's wise ordering, Peter, though apostle of the circumcision, did the first work among the Gentiles and led out in proclaiming the gospel to them. God chose Peter for that first Gentile work because he was best able to do it without friction and to remove the prejudice existing among Jewish Christians. Peter accepted the meaning of the vision and never forced the rites of the ceremonial law upon Gentile converts.
