Galatians 3:14
That the blessing of Abraham might come on the Gentiles through Jesus Christ; that we might receive the promise of the Spirit through faith. That the blessing of Abraham might come on the Gentiles through Jesus Christ; that we might receive the promise of the Spirit through faith.
Galatians 3:14 stands in a chapter whose teaching about the law became the center of a controversy in the church. Many took sides in that controversy without fully understanding the question before them. Taking wrong positions and failing to cherish the Spirit of Christ in the dispute brought sad loss.
The covenant of grace given to Abraham belongs to Gentiles equally with Jews through Jesus Christ. The Gentiles had known nothing of circumcision and were regarded as cursed and unclean, shut out behind a wall of Jewish prejudice and national and religious seclusion. The blessings given to the Jewish nation come upon Gentiles when they accept Christ as Saviour, showing that redemption is for all nations, kindreds, tongues, and peoples. Unbelieving Jews were broken off from the olive tree while believing Gentiles are grafted into the good olive tree and made one with the original branches, yet Gentiles must not boast lest they also be broken off.
