Howbeit then, when ye knew not God, ye did service unto them which by nature are no gods.
The time described is the time before knowing God, when service was given to beings that by nature are not gods. It is set after sonship has been received, in which those who are no more servants but heirs of God through Christ have received the Spirit of His Son leading them to cry Abba, Father. It stands directly before turning again, after having known God, to weak and beggarly elements and to bondage expressed in observing days and months and times and years.
That turning back includes observing the holidays and many traditions kept in this country. Such holiday and traditional observance is a great evil. It is to be given no sanction and no heed.
