This persuasion cometh not of him that calleth you.
This persuasion does not come from the One who calls, and that persuasion is toward division and contention, toward prejudice and vainglory, and toward provoking one another and envying one another. Division and discord in the church are caused by separation from Christ. The secret of unity is union with Christ, who is the great center, so that brethren come closer to one another just in proportion as they come closer to Him.
Being a Christian means being Christlike rather than merely holding church membership, with justice and purity and truth dwelling in the soul and appearing in fruit. Those who belong to Christ have crucified the flesh with its affections and lusts, and if they live in the Spirit they also walk in the Spirit by showing love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, and temperance. Walking in the Spirit also means restoring one overtaken in a fault in a spirit of meekness, bearing one another's burdens to fulfill the law of Christ, and not deceiving oneself by thinking oneself to be something when one is nothing. Therefore no one should cherish prejudice against a brother or put into the hands of opponents anything that suggests differences, even differences of opinion.
