And Abram and Nahor took them wives: the name of Abram’s wife was Sarai; and the name of Nahor’s wife, Milcah, the daughter of Haran, the father of Milcah, and the father of Iscah. Abram and Sarai belong to the patriarchal generations who lived after Noah. Their time falls well after the age of the patriarchs from Adam to Noah, whose lives stretched to nearly a thousand years. By the generation of Abram and Sarai the average length of human life was declining from that earlier standard.
