Abram's Wealth in Egyptby Ironbark

Genesis 12:16

And he entreated Abram well for her sake: and he had sheep, and oxen, and he asses, and menservants, and maidservants, and she asses, and camels.

During the famine Abram went down into Egypt and was favored and treated well there for Sarai's sake. Pharaoh gave him sheep and oxen and he asses and menservants and maidservants and she asses and camels, livestock and servants added to his wealth. By those gifts he left Egypt with more possessions than he had brought in.

The episode placed Abraham among the peoples to whom God was revealed through his integrity and conduct. It belongs to an account of deception and failure, honestly recorded to show how even a man favored by God could fall under temptation. That record stands to warn against sin and to encourage those who have fallen to rise again through God's grace.
