Genesis 14:22

And Abram said to the king of Sodom, I have lift up mine hand unto the LORD, the most high God, the possessor of heaven and earth,

Lifting up the hand to the LORD was a solemn oath and pledge, made to Him as recognized as the Most High God and the possessor and owner of heaven and earth. By that oath Abram refused to take any of the king of Sodom's goods for himself, taking no personal profit from the victory. He refused so that the king could not claim to have made him rich. The glory and blessing and credit for his prosperity would belong to God alone. In this refusal he put justice and the rights of others above personal gain. His integrity and unselfishness in dealing with the king of Sodom made him a representative through whom the God of heaven was revealed even to the inhabitants of Sodom.
