Sarah Laughs in the Tent at the Visitors' PromiseBible World
18:12Genesis 18:12
Therefore Sarah laughed within herself, saying, After I am waxed old shall I have pleasure, my lord being old also?
God promised Abraham and Sarah a son when they were old and well stricken in years. Sarah laughed within herself in unbelief at the prospect of bearing a child, because she was grown old and waxed old and her husband was old also. By calling Abraham lord she showed reverence for him as her husband.
Their inability to believe that Sarah would bear a son in her old age, though they believed God had promised them a son, was lack of faith and perfect trust in God's power and failure to wait in confiding faith for fulfillment of the promise and to endure the test of firm reliance on His unlimited power. Because of that doubt Sarah proposed and Abraham accepted taking Hagar as wife to bring about the promised son, which brought much unhappiness upon both Abraham and upon Sarah.
God fulfilled His promise and gave them a child despite their old age, proving His unlimited power and that nothing is impossible with Him and that He had power to do what seemed impossible. Their case stands as an example to be remembered and called to mind that forbids doubting God's word when fulfillment looks impossible because of age, a precedent Zacharias failed to recall and forgot when he doubted the angel's promise of a son.
