Genesis 24:28

And the damsel ran, and told them of her mother’s house these things.

Genesis 24:28 belongs to the account of Abraham directing the obtaining of a wife for Isaac, the marriage of Isaac and Rebekah, in which Abraham's God-fearing servant was entrusted with the choice. The record shows the result of Abraham educating Isaac to love a life of noble obedience. Following Abraham, parents are to command their households and train children to yield in obedience and to respect parental authority. Parents are to take responsibility to guide the affections of their children toward persons judged to be suitable companions for sons and daughters. Such guidance is needed because Satan controls the affections of the young to a great extent, and Abraham's course rebukes the idea that affections should not be guided or restrained.

In the account Isaac accepted his father's judgment by submitting to his God-fearing father's servant in choosing a wife. He trusted God to direct the matter. Their marriage is a tender picture of domestic happiness.

His case is an example for children and young people who fear or profess to fear God to imitate. Young people should seek parental counsel and divine guidance in choosing a marriage companion. Young people who profess to fear God should make that choice in the fear of God and as a subject of prayer, rather than treating themselves as solely entitled to choose.
