Genesis 24:47
And I asked her, and said, Whose daughter art thou? And she said, The daughter of Bethuel, Nahor’s son, whom Milcah bare unto him: and I put the earring upon her face, and the bracelets upon her hands. And I asked her, and said, Whose daughter art thou? And she said, The daughter of Bethuel, Nahor’s son, whom Milcah bare unto him: and I put the earring upon her face, and the bracelets upon her hands.
This verse belongs to the account of Abraham arranging a wife for Isaac through his servant, who chose the wife for him. It records the servant asking Rebekah about her family and then placing jewelry upon her. Isaac's marriage was guided by Abraham's judgment and care for his son.
Isaac trusted in faith that God would direct the choice of his wife. He submitted to the choice made by his father's God-fearing servant. The account shows the responsibility of parents to guide their children's affections toward companions they judge suitable. It teaches children to yield to and respect parental authority. The account of Isaac's marriage is recorded as an example for children, especially those professing to fear God.
