Genesis 25:20
And Isaac was forty years old when he took Rebekah to wife, the daughter of Bethuel the Syrian of Padan-aram, the sister to Laban the Syrian. And Isaac was forty years old when he took Rebekah to wife, the daughter of Bethuel the Syrian of Padan-aram, the sister to Laban the Syrian.
Isaac was forty years old when he took Rebekah as his wife. Despite that age, he did not choose his own wife but submitted to his father's judgment in having his father's experienced, God-fearing servant choose for him. His submission reflected training in the fear of God to a life of obedience that taught him to love obedience, with trust that God would direct in obtaining a wife. His marriage was a tender, happy union and picture of domestic happiness in which he loved Rebekah and was comforted after his mother's death. His case stands on record as an example for children in later generations, especially those who profess to fear God, that youth of fifteen to twenty are not competent to choose without parental consent but should move in the fear of God and make marriage a subject of prayer.
