Jacob Flees Home Toward Labanby Josiah-R

Genesis 27:43

Now therefore, my son, obey my voice; and arise, flee thou to Laban my brother to Haran;

Rebekah directed her son to listen to her voice, rise, and run away to her brother Laban at Haran to get out of reach of Esau's anger and threats of violence that placed Jacob's life in danger. That peril came after Jacob misled his father to secure the blessing meant for Esau and then received it, so that Esau's wrath made flight for life necessary. Her direction to flee came after her own earlier wrongdoing and was itself wrong.

Jacob therefore left his father's house as a fugitive, bearing Isaac's renewed covenant blessing with instruction to take a wife from among his mother's family in Mesopotamia. That departure opened years of exile that continued until God afterward commanded him to return to his homeland. The road stretched for hundreds of miles and left him lonely and troubled.

The counsel to flee became the means of parting Jacob and Rebekah permanently, so that she never looked upon his face again. She repented over this outcome in bitterness. Isaac lived on for many years after bestowing the blessing on Jacob and, from observing the subsequent course of Esau and Jacob, became convinced that the blessing rightly belonged to Jacob.

The same kind of deception seen in this account is practiced in the present through partiality and hypocrisy, conduct at which angels veil their faces. This makes it time to investigate Christ's teachings to ancient Israel.
