Genesis 28:2
Arise, go to Padan-aram, to the house of Bethuel thy mother’s father; and take thee a wife from thence of the daughters of Laban thy mother’s brother. Arise, go to Padan-aram, to the house of Bethuel thy mother’s father; and take thee a wife from thence of the daughters of Laban thy mother’s brother.
Isaac directed Jacob to arise and go to Padan-aram, to the house of Bethuel his mother's father, and to take a wife from there from among the daughters of Laban his mother's brother, after Jacob had received the blessing. He was sent forth to Mesopotamia to his mother's relatives to find a wife among them. In this sending he went as the inheritor of the covenant promise, which was renewed to him with his father's blessing.
He left his father's home as a fugitive, threatened with death by the wrath of Esau. His journey was lonely, extending hundreds of miles, made with only his staff in his hand through country inhabited by wild, roving tribes. He avoided men lest his angry brother trace him.
Though he carried the blessing with him, he traveled with a deeply troubled heart, in remorse and timidity. He feared that he had lost forever the blessing that God had purposed to give him, while Satan pressed temptations upon him. His departure separated him from Rebekah for the rest of her life, and she repented bitterly because her wrongful counsel had helped bring this about.
