Isaac Blesses Jacob Before He Departsby KalebRosendahl

Genesis 28:3

And God Almighty bless thee, and make thee fruitful, and multiply thee, that thou mayest be a multitude of people;

Isaac spoke these words as he sent Jacob away to his mother's family in Mesopotamia to seek a wife, when Jacob was fleeing home as a fugitive under threat of death from Esau's wrath. In that sending he renewed the covenant promise to Jacob and conferred his father's blessing upon him, thereby making him the inheritor of the promise. Jacob carried that blessing with him on his lonely journey into exile. The blessing recorded in Genesis 28:1-5 rightly belonged to Jacob, as Isaac afterward became convinced by observing the subsequent courses taken by Jacob and by Esau.
