Genesis 28:8

And Esau seeing that the daughters of Canaan pleased not Isaac his father;

Esau recognized that his Canaanite wives did not please Isaac his father. When he was forty years old he had married Hittite wives who were a grief of mind to Isaac and Rebekah. This belongs to the troubled experiences of Esau and Jacob recorded in chapters 27-31. Those chapters are marked by family tensions surrounding Isaac's preference for Esau and by the conflict between Esau and Jacob. Being grieved over Esau's wives, Isaac and Rebekah sent Jacob to Padan-aram, to Haran, to obtain a wife from his own relatives, and Esau then married one of the daughters of Ishmael.
