Genesis 29:13

And it came to pass, when Laban heard the tidings of Jacob his sister’s son, that he ran to meet him, and embraced him, and kissed him, and brought him to his house. And he told Laban all these things.

Jacob reached Laban's household alone, stripped of possessions and dependent on family welcome. When Laban learned that the traveler was his sister's son, he ran to meet him, embraced and kissed him, and brought him into his house. Jacob's diligence and skill quickly became evident, so that Laban urged him to remain and agreed to accept his service in return for Rachel.
