Genesis 29:14

And Laban said to him, Surely thou art my bone and my flesh. And he abode with him the space of a month.

Laban's declaration that Jacob was his bone and his flesh was a recognition of close kinship and a welcome into his home and household. Jacob then remained with Laban for the space of a month as a guest and member of the family circle. During that month his diligence and skill in work became evident and proved his worth. Seeing his value, Laban was moved to urge him not to leave but to continue with him.
