Genesis 29:28

And Jacob did so, and fulfilled her week: and he gave him Rachel his daughter to wife also.

Jacob had served seven years for Rachel, but through deception he was given Leah to marry first. After he fulfilled Leah's wedding week, Rachel was also given to him as wife, while Leah was retained since she could not be discarded. He agreed to serve another seven years for Rachel, giving twice seven years of service in all. His labor was the bride-price because he had no money or other valuable property to offer, with service set for a stated time according to the value required for the bride.

Jacob loved Rachel much more than Leah, and she remained the wife he loved best. His love for her made the hard toil feel light. That love was deep and abiding and lasted his whole life, so that in old age, looking back over a long and troubled family history, the loss of Rachel was the sorrow he recalled. The rivalry between the sister-wives embittered his life.
