Genesis 31:22

And it was told Laban on the third day that Jacob was fled.

Jacob left while Laban was away, taking with him his family and all that he had. Word reached Laban on the third day after the departure that Jacob had fled. Laban grew very angry and set out in pursuit, determined to bring Jacob and his family back by force. He overtook the company on the seventh day, so that the fugitives were in great danger. The Lord had pity on Jacob and protected him by giving Laban a dream just as he was about to overtake him, warning him not to harm Jacob or press him to return. The command to speak neither good nor bad to Jacob meant that Laban was to neither force him to return nor urge him back by flattering inducements.
