Genesis 31:23
And he took his brethren with him, and pursued after him seven days’ journey; and they overtook him in the mount Gilead. And he took his brethren with him, and pursued after him seven days’ journey; and they overtook him in the mount Gilead.
Genesis 31:23 belongs to the account of Jacob's departure from Laban after God directed him to return to his homeland. Laban and his sons had grown jealous of Jacob's increasing wealth, and this jealousy helped make Jacob fear for his safety and seek God's direction. Laban did not learn that Jacob had left until Jacob had already journeyed three days.
When he learned it he became very angry and set out in pursuit, determined to bring Jacob back by force. After seven days' journey he overtook him in Mount Gilead. But the Lord in pity for Jacob stopped Laban just as he was about to overtake him, warning him in a dream not to speak good or bad to Jacob. That command meant he must neither force Jacob to return nor urge him back with flattering inducements, persuasive offers, and enticing promises.
