Genesis 31:26
And Laban said to Jacob, What hast thou done, that thou hast stolen away unawares to me, and carried away my daughters, as captives taken with the sword? And Laban said to Jacob, What hast thou done, that thou hast stolen away unawares to me, and carried away my daughters, as captives taken with the sword?
Genesis 31:26 belongs to the account of Jacob's flight from Laban toward Canaan in obedience to God's direction to return there. Jacob left secretly during Laban's absence with his family and all he possessed, and Laban learned of it three days later. Laban pursued and overtook Jacob in anger, intending and determined to force him to return.
Out of pity for Jacob, God protected him by warning Laban in a dream just as he was about to overtake him not to speak good or bad to him, meaning Laban must not force him to return nor urge him back with flattering inducements. In the verse Laban angrily charges Jacob with stealing away without his knowledge and carrying off his daughters like prisoners seized in war, claiming Jacob had wronged him.
