And ye know that with all my power I have served your father.
Jacob called Rachel and Leah to him in the field by his flock after carrying his distress about which way to turn to God in prayer, and God in mercy answered by telling him to return to the land of his fathers and to his kindred. There he appealed to his wives as witnesses that he had served their father faithfully with all his strength and power. He set that faithful service against Laban's countenance turned against him, against Laban's deception and unfair dealing in changing his wages ten times, and against the presence of the God of his father with him so that Laban was not suffered to hurt him. Even Laban himself knew how faithfully and diligently Jacob had worked for him. Upon that appeal Jacob told them the dream God had given him directing him to leave Laban for his kindred, which Rachel and Leah accepted because of their father's treatment of them.
