Genesis 32:31

And as he passed over Penuel the sun rose upon him, and he halted upon his thigh.

Genesis 32:31 belongs to Jacob's return journey to Canaan, which was made under God's care and guarded by heavenly angels. It records the close of his struggle at Penuel with the covenant Angel, as the sun rose upon him when he passed over Penuel and he halted upon his thigh. His weakness and helplessness marked the moment he received the victory of conquering faith and the title of a prince with God. After that victory Esau's armed bands were stilled before him, and later Pharaoh stooped to ask his blessing. The struggle at Penuel is linked with the saints' future time of anguish, called the time of Jacob's trouble, that comes before their deliverance.
