Genesis 34:13
And the sons of Jacob answered Shechem and Hamor his father deceitfully, and said, because he had defiled Dinah their sister: And the sons of Jacob answered Shechem and Hamor his father deceitfully, and said, because he had defiled Dinah their sister:
The sons of Jacob answered Shechem and Hamor his father deceitfully, and they did so because Shechem had defiled Dinah their sister. The sons who gave this deceitful answer were Simeon and Levi. Their deception concealed their true intentions and was part of a grievous sin of cruelty and violence. In fierce and cruel revenge they brought ruin upon Shechem and destroyed its people, the Shechemites.
Jacob later condemned their anger and violence. He foretold judgment upon Simeon and Levi for what they had done. They would be divided in Jacob and scattered in Israel.
