Genesis 34:16

Then will we give our daughters unto you, and we will take your daughters to us, and we will dwell with you, and we will become one people.

The words are Simeon and Levi's offer to the Shechemites to join the two peoples through intermarriage and shared life, giving their own daughters to them, taking their daughters in return, and dwelling together until they would become one people. That offer was deceptive, for its friendly terms concealed their violent intent. In revenge for the wrong done to their sister, Simeon and Levi brought ruin, slaughter, violence, and bloodshed upon the city to which the offer had been made. Jacob later condemned Simeon and Levi for this deception.
