Genesis 34:3

And his soul clave unto Dinah the daughter of Jacob, and he loved the damsel, and spake kindly unto the damsel.

The terrible result recorded around this verse began when Dinah went out to see the daughters of the land. By venturing into association with the ungodly she placed herself on Satan's ground and invited temptation. What followed was the lawless deed of one rash youth. That deed brought shame and sorrow to Jacob's one daughter.

The deed provoked the revenge of her two brothers. That provocation did not excuse their revenge. The retaliation ended in violence and bloodshed, with the two brothers involved in the guilt of murder and a whole city given to ruin and slaughter. The treacherous cruelty of Simeon and Levi in return was a grievous sin. It filled Jacob with horror, grief and abhorrence.
