Genesis 35:17
And it came to pass, when she was in hard labour, that the midwife said unto her, Fear not; thou shalt have this son also. And it came to pass, when she was in hard labour, that the midwife said unto her, Fear not; thou shalt have this son also.
Rachel was in hard labor with her second son when the midwife reassured her that she would have this son also. The child was born before she died, and his father named him Benjamin. Thus the verse belongs to the account of Rachel dying while giving birth to Benjamin. Her death in childbirth took place amid the hardships of a patriarchal journey. It stands as the only death associated with childbirth in the first twenty-four hundred years of sacred history.
