Genesis 37:17
And the man said, They are departed hence; for I heard them say, Let us go to Dothan. And Joseph went after his brethren, and found them in Dothan. And the man said, They are departed hence; for I heard them say, Let us go to Dothan. And Joseph went after his brethren, and found them in Dothan.
This verse belongs to the account of Joseph's early life, which shows his brothers' hostility and the events that led him to Dothan. Sent by his father to check on his brothers, Joseph first searched for them where his father expected them to be, at Shechem, but a man he met in the field, a stranger, told him and directed him that they had gone on to Dothan, and Joseph followed those directions.
Reaching them in Dothan required a long journey with added distance, and Joseph hastened on despite the added distance and his weariness. He continued the search willingly and eagerly, out of love for his brothers and obedience to his father. He wanted to ease his father's worry and to see the brothers he still loved.
At Dothan his brothers confronted him in anger, badly repaying his love, obedience and care. That confrontation set in motion the cruel act that separated him from his home and made him a slave.
