The Chief Butler Gives Pharaoh the CupBible World

Genesis 40:12

And Joseph said unto him, This is the interpretation of it: The three branches are three days:

The three branches in the chief butler's dream are three days. The same meaning is given for the butler and the baker as a period of three days. After those three days the butler would be freed from prison and restored to Pharaoh's favor and service, to put Pharaoh's cup into his hand as he had formerly done. Joseph was able to give this meaning because interpretations belong to God. The cheering interpretation relieved the butler's sadness and distress of mind and showed Joseph's kind interest and kind treatment of him.

On the strength of the interpretation Joseph pleaded in a touching manner to be thought on and kindly remembered when it was well with the butler. He asked him to make mention of him to Pharaoh and bring him out of prison, since he had been stolen away out of the land of the Hebrews and had done nothing to deserve being put into the dungeon. The three-day period was once only a matter of prophecy and was then fulfilled in accordance with the prediction and exactly as predicted. The prediction came true when the butler was restored to his position and the baker was hanged.

Together with other given times that were fulfilled in the past, it proves that predicted events often occur within a given time. The chronological periods in the Bible extending to the second coming of Christ are therefore revealed times to be seriously considered and not passed over.
