Joseph Explains Dreams to Two PrisonersBible World

Genesis 40:19

Yet within three days shall Pharaoh lift up thy head from off thee, and shall hang thee on a tree; and the birds shall eat thy flesh from off thee.

The three baskets carried on the baker's head in his dream meant three days. The birds eating the baked food out of the upper basket signified that after his hanging birds would eat his flesh. Within three days, on the third day, Pharaoh would lift up his head from off him by putting him to death, hanging him on a tree and leaving his body exposed.

The predicted events for the baker and the butler came to pass as foretold within the stated time, exactly within three days. The baker was hanged while the chief butler was restored to his office. The truthful interpretation was given even though its terrible meaning was understood. On hearing the dream there was sadness, yet with a kind and sympathizing heart and a high sense of duty the sad message was delivered.

The exact fulfillment proves that events once only a matter of prophecy when limited to a given time are fulfilled in accordance with the prediction. The chronological portions of Scripture are therefore as much the word of God as any other part. The chronological periods extending to the second coming of Christ are appointed times revealed by God to His servants to be studied and trusted.
