Joseph Interprets Pharaoh's Dream in the PalaceBible World

Genesis 41:16

And Joseph answered Pharaoh, saying, It is not in me: God shall give Pharaoh an answer of peace.

After two more years in gloomy prison, Pharaoh was troubled by remarkable dreams that the magicians and wise men of Egypt with all their magic and boasted wisdom could not explain, leaving Pharaoh humiliated to turn for relief to a Hebrew servant slave. Joseph was hastily brought out of the dungeon, shaved and changed in raiment to stand before Pharaoh, who credited Joseph himself with ability to understand a dream to interpret it.

It is not in Joseph to interpret Pharaoh's dream or dreams, for no wisdom, power, or understanding for this is in himself, and he modestly refuses credit and honor for possessing superior wisdom to interpret dreams. By that denial he places himself on the same level as the magicians and wise men Pharaoh had already consulted. He directs Pharaoh to God and gives God the credit, declaring that human knowledge cannot solve such mysteries and that God alone can explain their meaning and mystery. He declares that God will give Pharaoh a reassuring answer that brings peace to his troubled mind.

His response expresses humble, strong faith and trust in God. His answer is an example of heroic fidelity to God, in that when honored by the Egyptians he did not conceal his loyalty to God.
