Lean Cows Devouring Fat Cows by the NileBible World

Genesis 41:18

And, behold, there came up out of the river seven kine, fatfleshed and well favoured; and they fed in a meadow:

The scene opens with Pharaoh standing on the bank of the river. Seven fat-fleshed, healthy, well-favored cattle came up out of the river, the Nile, and grazed and fed in a meadow. This is the first part of Pharaoh's dream as he afterward told it to Joseph.

It begins a sequence that continues with seven poor, very ill-favored, lean-fleshed cattle coming up afterward and eating up the seven fat cattle yet remaining still ill-favored. That is followed by the dream of seven full good ears growing on one stalk, devoured by seven withered, thin ears blasted with the east wind. Pharaoh told this dream to the magicians, but none of them could declare its interpretation to him. The seven good cattle mean seven years of abundance in Egypt, coming before and followed by seven years of famine.
