Joseph Interprets Pharaoh's Dream in the PalaceBible World
41:26Genesis 41:26
The seven good kine are seven years; and the seven good ears are seven years: the dream is one.
The seven good cows and the seven good ears both mean the same seven years. The two images are one dream and convey one message. The seven years are seven years of great plenty and abundance in Egypt, when field and garden will yield more abundantly than ever before.
By the dream God shows what He is about to do. The giving of the same message twice proves that its fulfillment is certain and near. The years of plenty will be followed by seven years of famine. The famine will be so grievous that the plenty will not be known in the land.
The plenty was given so Egypt could prepare for the coming shortage, with direction to lay up large supplies during the good years for the famine years. The warning was given seven years before the famine, and obedience produced wonderful provisions in Egypt. When severe famine left Jacob and his sons in Canaan with food nearly exhausted and want and starvation before them, all countries journeyed to Egypt to buy corn, and Jacob sent his ten sons down to buy food that they might live and not die, keeping back Benjamin lest harm befall him.
