Pharaoh's Dream Explained as Seven Plenty and Seven Famine Yearsby KyleS

Genesis 41:32

And for that the dream was doubled unto Pharaoh twice; it is because the thing is established by God, and God will shortly bring it to pass.

Pharaoh's two dreams in different forms are one dream with one meaning, by which God showed Pharaoh what He is about to do. The doubling of the dream unto Pharaoh twice means the thing revealed is firmly fixed by God and that God will shortly bring it to pass. The repetition confirmed that what was foretold was certain and near, so Egypt could prepare for it.

What is fixed is seven years of great plenty followed by seven years of famine. The plenty will be so abundant that field and garden yield more abundantly than ever before, and the famine will be so grievous that the plenty shall not be known in the land. The warning was given in a dream seven years before the famine.

The advance warning was given so Egypt could prepare and use the years of abundance to store food for the coming shortage. The warning led to laying up large supplies during the plenteous years, a wonderful provision. When the famine followed the years of plenty, the stored grain provided food for Egypt and other lands.

When want and starvation stared Jacob and his sons and other lands in the face, there was bread in Egypt. Jacob heard of corn in Egypt and told his sons to go down and buy food there that they might live and not die. The seven years were once only a matter of prophecy and were afterward fulfilled in accordance with the prediction.

This proves that God fulfills what He predicts within the time He predicts, and that predicted events occur within a given time. Together with other fulfilled chronological prophecies, the seven years of plenty and famine show that the chronological periods in the Bible that extend to the second coming of Christ are appointed times revealed by God that will likewise be fulfilled.
