Genesis 41:51
And Joseph called the name of the firstborn Manasseh: For God, said he, hath made me forget all my toil, and all my father’s house. And Joseph called the name of the firstborn Manasseh: For God, said he, hath made me forget all my toil, and all my father’s house.
The verse belongs to the account of Joseph in Egypt during the years of famine. The surrounding passage in Genesis 41:28-54 records the seven years of plenty and the seven years of famine foretold through Pharaoh's dreams and interpreted beforehand. Those time-limited events were once only a matter of prophecy and were afterward fulfilled in accordance with the prediction. Predicted events often occur within a given time. The chronological portions of the Bible are as sure as any other part. The chronological periods extending to the second coming of Christ are the appointed times revealed by God and will likewise be fulfilled, giving ground to expect their fulfillment.
Joseph is presented as an example of a faithful presence in a foreign land, showing what institutions bearing the Seventh-day Adventist name are to be to the world. His position and provision enabled him to help relieve distress, making him an example of using available means to aid people in need.
