Joseph Sells Grain to His Brothers in Egyptby CNSDA

Genesis 41:57

And all countries came into Egypt to Joseph for to buy corn; because that the famine was so sore in all lands.

The famine was severe in every land, so people from all countries came into Egypt to Joseph to buy grain. God had revealed the coming famine in a dream seven years beforehand, so Egypt had gathered and stored supplies ready and became a source of food for starving people in other lands, including Jacob's family in Canaan. Those seeking food gathered in crowds at the Egyptian storehouse, waiting and kneeling for provisions where sacks of grain stood piled ready with attendants distributing them while Joseph as the officer in charge met those asking for help.

Through integrity and the means God placed in his hands, Joseph preserved life in Egypt and became a fountain of life to the whole nation and a source of provision for the surrounding world amid widespread poverty, famine and distress. This temporal rescue illustrates the spiritual blessings offered to the world and to all through connection with the God Joseph worshiped.

It is the pattern for God's people today, that every worker in whose heart Christ abides will show His love and work together with God for humanity, receiving grace from the Saviour to impart to others until spiritual life flows from the whole being, so that sanitariums become sources of life and healing for body and soul. Provision is given to break every yoke and let the oppressed go free, not to be withheld while people suffer, so to act the part of Joseph is to refuse to pass by distress like the priest and Levite and to feed the needy as to Christ himself, wishing for more means to meet the prevailing distress.
