Genesis 42:25

Then Joseph commanded to fill their sacks with corn, and to restore every man’s money into his sack, and to give them provision for the way: and thus did he unto them.

Joseph ordered their sacks to be filled with corn, providing them with ample food both to carry home and to sustain them on the journey itself. The supply was generous, meeting their present need and adding extra provision for the way. At the same time he commanded that the payment each brother had made be put back, every man's money restored into his own sack. The order was carried out exactly as he had directed.

When the brothers opened their sacks on the way home and discovered the returned money, they were seized with fear rather than relief. They dreaded that the money in their sacks would be taken as theft and would bring them into further trouble with the ruler of Egypt. In their distress over Simeon's detention, the harsh treatment they had received, and now this alarming discovery, they regarded their troubles as God's righteous punishment upon them for their sins.
