Genesis 43:12
And take double money in your hand; and the money that was brought again in the mouth of your sacks, carry it again in your hand; peradventure it was an oversight: And take double money in your hand; and the money that was brought again in the mouth of your sacks, carry it again in your hand; peradventure it was an oversight:
The verse is Jacob's direction for his sons' second journey to Egypt to buy grain during the famine, after they were required to bring Benjamin with them. Pressed by want as his children and households called for food, Jacob at last let Benjamin go. He directed his sons to take double money in hand for the new purchase and to carry back in hand the money that had been found in the mouths of their sacks. They were to go with Benjamin and with a present to the ruler in hope of obtaining his favor, and on the second journey they obeyed by taking the present, double money in hand, and Benjamin, and stood before Joseph.
The extra money was to cover both the earlier payment and the new purchase of food. The money found in their sacks was to be brought back again in full weight together with other money to buy food. Its appearance had alarmed Jacob and his sons, they could not tell who had put it there, and they thought it might have been an oversight or mistake. Returning it was therefore honest restitution.
When taken into Joseph's house they were afraid they had been brought there to be called to account for that money. They thought it had been intentionally placed to find occasion against them to accuse them of wrong and make them slaves. So they sought friendship with the steward of the house and told him they had found the money and brought it back honestly.
