Genesis 43:24
And the man brought the men into Joseph’s house, and gave them water, and they washed their feet; and he gave their asses provender. And the man brought the men into Joseph’s house, and gave them water, and they washed their feet; and he gave their asses provender.
The verse belongs to the brothers' arrival in Egypt during the famine to buy grain, when they appeared before Joseph without recognizing him and bowed before him. It shows them being brought into Joseph's house to dine with him, where before the meal they were given water to wash their feet and their donkeys were given feed as ordinary hospitality.
Being brought into the house filled the brothers with fear that they were being called to account for the money found in their sacks. They suspected the money had been placed there on purpose to find occasion against them to make them slaves, and that they had been brought to the ruler's house to accomplish this more easily. To protect themselves they sought to befriend the steward of the house, telling him they had found the money in the mouths of their sacks, had brought it back in full weight with other money to buy food, and did not know who had put it there.
