Genesis 43:33

And they sat before him, the firstborn according to his birthright, and the youngest according to his youth: and the men marvelled one at another.

The setting is the coming of Joseph's brothers to Egypt in the time of famine, when he knew them though they did not know him, and they told him their youngest brother was left with their father. He had them placed before him strictly by age, the firstborn first and on down to the youngest, with Benjamin last as the youngest of all. The placing was at the table in exact order by birthright, after the manner followed when ages are known, as one who perfectly knew how old each was. The men looked at one another in marveling astonishment at the correctness of the order, since they could not see how he had learned their birth order and supposed he could have no knowledge of them. Joseph himself did not eat at the same table with them, because the Egyptians held it an abomination to eat bread with Hebrews.
