Genesis 46:1

And Israel took his journey with all that he had, and came to Beer-sheba, and offered sacrifices unto the God of his father Isaac.

The famine extended to the land of Canaan and was severely felt in the place where Jacob dwelt, while Egypt held abundant provision of grain made under the king, so ten of Jacob's sons journeyed down to Egypt to purchase grain. Before leaving for Egypt, Jacob heard his sons confess their wicked treatment of Joseph, and he forgave them and blessed them. He understood that God had overruled that evil for good. He set out for Egypt with gladness of heart.

He traveled toward Egypt with his sons together with their families and their attendants. At Beersheba he offered grateful sacrifices to God and prayed for blessing and for evidence that God was pleased with the move to Egypt and would go with them. God answered in a vision of the night, telling him not to fear going down to Egypt, promising to make of him a great nation there, to go down with him and bring him up again, and that Joseph would be with him at his death.
